As published in.

ASRC Federal works as a trusted partner to more than 30 government agency customers in defense and citizen services toidentifykey challenges and implement smart solutions. One standout success from 2025 advanced our mission with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

The challenge

U.S. airports serve an average of approximately 45,000 flights and 2.9 million airline passengers. With the number of passengers increasing each year and the need for reliable and secure passenger screening, Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) must verify that individuals entering are legit.

ASRC Federal’s aviation and technology experts collaborated on a common-sense passenger processing solution that not only helps security officers, but also U.S. air travelers, airlinesand the airports in which theyoperate.

A speedy and secure solution

To cost-effectively combat increasing wait times, ASRC Federal and our partners worked with our customers at the TSA to develop the successful TSA Touchless Identity Solution(TIS), or “Touchless ID” – the next generation of passenger identity verification technology to enhance national security while improving air travelers’ experience at airports.

How it works

TIS allows TSAPreChecktravelers to move through the security checkpoint without having to search for and present their boarding passes or IDs. With TIS,the vast majority ofpassengers can be cleared quickly, resulting in more passengers passing through checkpoints. Thisultimately helpsthe airport trim costs and supportsan efficientpassenger experience.

Airline passengers enrolled in TSAPreCheckcan opt into TIS for free. After enrolling, passengers need to update their active airline profile with valid passport information. The airline then provides a consent indicator on the passenger’s mobile boarding pass, entitling them to use a dedicated TIS lane at check-in. At the TIS kiosk, a TSO with a tablet and high-definition camera captures the passenger’s image and quickly verifies their identity against TSA data, expeditingcheckpoint processing in under 10 seconds. The result is up to 66% faster processing time forPreCheckpassengers.

Software developed by ASRC Federal for this program leverages Customs and Border Protection’s Traveler Verification Service application interface and intelligent data filtering methods to comb through millions of passenger records. Consequently, TISis able tovalidatepassenger’s information witha very highlevel of accuracy and is even able to reliably discern between identical twins.

Expanded access

The widespread implementation of TIS will help address understaffing and high passenger volumes at airports as it automates the check-in process. In total, 45 next-generation TIS kiosks are currently deployed across 15 high-volume international airports. Currently, airlines that support TIS include Delta, United Airlines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines at major hubs including Atlanta, San Francisco, Denver,Los Angelesand New York City. Airlines wishing to adopt this solution can make a simple modification of their current check-in processes to offerPreCheckpassengersan optionto opt-in for biometric identification.

In sum, TIS allows airports to advance security and efficiency while markedly improving the passenger experience. As U.S. travel increases in 2026 and beyond with large events such as the World Cup and Summer Olympics, passengers will continue to appreciate expedited airport security processing.

TIS was named an American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) 2025 Innovation Champion Awardwinner.

Giving Tuesday 2025

As we kickoff the holiday season with Giving Tuesday, ASRC Federal is proud to partner with in support of their mission to build strong, stable and secure military and veteran families by improving their financial, emotional and social well-being.

“Supporting military service members, veterans and their families is a cornerstone of our commitment to community and honoring those who serve,” said ASRC Federal President and CEO Jennifer Felix. “We are grateful for the sacrifices of our armed forces and their selfless dedication to protecting freedom.”

Rising inflation and economic uncertainty have contributed to financial challenges and significant stress on military households. According to Operation Homefront:

  • 23% of veterans and military families report being food insecure
  • 4 million veterans are burdened by housing costs
  • 1.2 million veterans live below the poverty line

In 2024, Operation Homefront served nearly 800 military families who applied for their Critical Financial Assistance (CFA) program, providing over $3 million in financial support. The needs have been even greater in 2025 – their CFA program has experienced an unprecedented 73% year-over-year increase in applications and a 150% year-over-year increase in food assistance requests. The organization has financially assisted more than 22,000 families since 2011.

“The holiday season can be especially challenging for military families facing financial difficulties. We are honored to stand alongside Operation Homefront in supporting our heroes,” added Felix.

About the DoD SkillBridge Program

DoD’s SkillBridge is a free training internship program designed to provide opportunities for eligible active-duty military service members, helping them gain valuable experience in the civilian working environment and preparing them for their transition. In 2021, ASRC Federal became a DoD SkillBridge industry partner, and this program is an additional way we can recruit and hire our Nation’s veterans.

The ASRC Federal team at Fort Huachuca in Arizona has a strong history of transforming SkillBridge interns into full-time team members who play pivotal roles as key contributors and project leaders on a variety of intelligence and defense contracts. The transition from military to civilian life comes with unique challenges, but the Fort Huachuca team ensures these service members do not navigate it alone.

ASRC Federal has successfully hired multiple SkillBridge interns over the last few years, with each of them transitioning seamlessly from military service into civilian roles. “The program offers transitioning service members critical experience that helps set them up for long-term, future success, as well as a potential direct pathway to a meaningful and rewarding civilian career,” says Kirk McIntosh, program manager with ASRC Federal’s Fort Huachuca team (Defense & Intelligence Operating Group) who oversees their SkillBridge internship program. “It’s impactful because they continue supporting the warfighter, just in a new capacity.”

A Culture of Mentorship and Mission Readiness

A unique advantage of a SkillBridge internship with the ASRC Federal Fort Huachuca team is the environment they provide. About 97% of its workforce are veterans, so they understand first-hand what it takes to transition from military life to a civilian career. SkillBridge interns benefit from:

  • A tailored internship experience that aligns with their civilian career goals
  • Hands-on mentorship from teammates and leaders who have been through the same transition
  • Exposure to critical intelligence and defense operations that prepare them for civilian federal contract work
  • Opportunities to network with government and industry professionals, setting them up for long-term success

Interns gain valuable technical skills and self-confidence, which enables them to navigate the civilian workforce. For many, the biggest adjustments are cultural – learning corporate organizational structures, communicating in a federal contracting setting, and adapting to professional work schedules and a new and different business mindset.

Fort Huachuca Success Stories

Three former SkillBridge interns, now full-time employees with ASRC Federal’s Defense & Intelligence Operating Group share their insights on the Fort Huachuca program.

“Learning to think, talk and be accountable as a civilian in the government contractor arena is the hard part about the military retirement transition. The internship environment allows one to adjust without the pressure of having to get everything right immediately, removing much of the stress many veterans face when leaving the military,” says Andrew Jackson, a data integration expert.

“When I started my SkillBridge internship, I had no idea how smooth my transition would be. I worked with professionals who truly cared about me, my career and my success. In just a few months of my internship, I was hired full-time and eventually stepped into a management role supporting an intelligence contract. ASRC Federal took care of me – and I haven’t looked back,” says Rich Smith, program manager.

“My SkillBridge internship was more than just a career transition, it was a transformative experience that equipped me with pivotal skills, industry knowledge and a renewed sense of purpose beyond military service,” says Ray Hibbert, program manager.

Building a Stronger Workforce in Support of the Mission

The program is not only about filling positions, but also about building a sustainable talent pipeline of highly-motivated professionals. These service members bring technical expertise, leadership and mission understanding that make an immediate impact on our government contracts. As former military leaders, analysts and military intelligence professionals, SkillBridge interns have the operational knowledge that ASRC Federal contracts at Fort Huachuca require, along with the drive and discipline to make a difference.

SkillBridge is more than an internship; it is a long-term workforce strategy designed to strengthen our company and the government customers we support through:

  • Integrating top-tier military talent into our intelligence, cybersecurity and logistics teams
  • Ensuring mission continuity by hiring professionals with extensive operational expertise and institutional knowledge
  • Enhancing performance by providing a career path for transitioning service members

Smith has overseen multiple interns during his role as a program manager. “What impresses me most about SkillBridge interns is their sense of purpose and direction. They are highly motivated, eager to apply their skills and knowledge and committed to ongoing learning and growth.”

The results speak for themselves. At Fort Huachuca, six of the seven interns who completed the program have joined the ASRC Federal team – two of which have stepped into leadership roles and are making an impact on Army Intelligence programs. Several others have been instrumental as part of the Office of the Chief Technology Officer team.
